DATA ANALYSIS

The Nuanic Ring consistently captures and stores measurement data regardless of whether the Nuanic App is open or not. The constant proximity of the phone isn’t necessary for the DNE index to be stored.

If you have signed into the Nuanic Cloud, the Nuanic App will automatically synchronize the data between from the app to the cloud.

DATA STORAGE

DNE

1-100

As the values derived from raw EDA signals are nearly impossible to interpret without complex computations, Nuanic has developed an easy to interpret index - the DNE. With this index everyone can explore their data in a meaningful way.

The real-time DNE states your stress level in a given moment on a scale from 1 to 100. A higher reading indicates a higher level of your sympathetic nervous system’s (SNS) activation. The SNS activates during cognitive, emotional and physical activity.

In the Nuanic App this reading is displayed on the top of the home screen. Below it you can see the last 12-hour display of your SNS activation.

Can you spot moments of high activation? What about recovery? Try to think what you did in those situations.

The ideal 24-hour DNE index average is 50. This means that there are equal amounts of high and low nervous system activation. However, it is also important that there is variation during the day. Day time activation level is typically overall higher than night-time.

On a longer time scale it is possible to identify activities that either stress you or help you recover. Daily changes are normal, but if your daily average is continuously higher than 50, you should focus on your recovery in order to maintain balance and not get exhausted on the long run.

It is important to note that from the state of activation, it isn’t possible to infer whether the stress is negative or positive. From the physiological standpoint, recovery is also essential following positive stress.
High readings are not always consciously acknowledged. For instance, cognitive load, which pertains to mental exertion, may not necessarily be felt as a strong sensation, even though the nervous system is under significant stress.

DAYTIME AND
NIGHT-TIME DISPLAYS

Night-time 00-12

Clear visualization helps to grasp the peaks of activity and recovery during day and night. The closer the graph is to the outer rim, the higher the SNS activity is at that moment, and vice versa.

Significant fluctuations in stress levels are normal in healthy individuals. However, the emphasis of activity peaks should be during waking hours. Intense spikes during sleep might indicate challenges in recovery.

On the other hand, low readings while awake could signify calmness but also fatigue. It's beneficial to interpret these readings in relation to personal feelings and daily events. The journal helps you write down notes in relation to specific events and measurement points.

The Nuanic App automatically asks you to evaluate your feeling (valence) three times a day:

  • after sleep (at 07:00),

  • after work (at 16:00) and

  • after leisure (at 23:00).

This is added to your journal automatically, and you can edit the given score or add additional notes to it anytime you like in the journal. It is found behind the Journal button on the bottom right corner of the main screen.

the journal feature

You can also add your own journal marking. You can make markings of events of

  • work

  • sport

  • leisure

  • sleep

  • relaxing time

  • dining

  • family time

  • TV/web scrolling, and

  • art.

1. Open the journal.
2. Click on the yellow + to add a marking.
3. Select the smiley face that reflects your valence. Then select your category.
4. Lastly, add a title to your entry and select the time frame. You can also write additional notes to your marking.
